Director Todd McFarlane Confirms To Roll Out Spawn Reboot Inspired Toys, Details

The Spawn reboot writer and director Todd McFarlane has confirmed that McFarlane Toys will be making toys and merchandise for the upcoming film to create more hype among fans for the live action reboot. He added that instead of spoiling any major details, the toys will help to whip up a bit of mystery surrounding Spawn.

“Yes. Traditionally, a lot of toys come out before the movie.” McFarlane told ComicBook.com. “I’m not giving anything away in the toy aisle three weeks before the movie comes out. There should be some sense of [mystery], you know…

The director explained that fans got a little frustrated when they did not get what they wanted from the first and second Venom trailers. He added that fans always have the hunger to see the best thing from the trailers. McFarlane explained that he will also resort to creating some sort of mystery around the Spawn reboot film so that people will crave to see more and more of the film.

You can see it right now with Venom.” McFarlane explained. “People got a little frustrated, they wanted something in the first trailer and then the second trailer. People have the hunger to want to see the cool thing. Right? You’re always going to have the frustration if you don’t have enough, especially from the trailer. We’ll be doing all those things later. People are going to want to be seeing more and more and more.”

The Spawn creator added that another reason for holding back much information about the film is to minimize negative publicity for the film.

It is expected that the filmmakers will reveal Spawn Reboot’s official release date only when they are well into production.

I’ll be sharing some of the information, especially while I’m filming,” McFarlane told during an earlier interview with Comicbook.com. “I’m going to be there on the set with people….I’m going to share some of the fun of making a movie. So, yeah, we’re scheduled. So, it’s coming. You know, I don’t have a date, but it’s coming. We’ll be open.”

Spawn will feature Jaime Foxx as the titular antihero, Al Simmons/Spawn. The film will be produced by Blumhouse Productions and McFarlane Films. The film will follow the story of a black-ops agent who is betrayed and murdered by his team. His soul is sent to hell for all the innocents he killed. Interestingly, he gets into a deal with a demon and comes back to Earth, reincarnated through demonic means.

The film is expected to go into production by the end of this year.
