UPDATE: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Teased To Take Place Before Infinity War

It looks like the fate of Star-Lord and other Guardians cannot be determined based on their confirmed appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Even after the devastating Avengers: Infinity War finale which turned almost all the fan-favorite Guardians of the Galaxy members into dust, fans were pretty carefree about the future of the characters as they were sure that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 will bring them back to life. But, now it seems the return of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Mantis and Groot post Infinity War aftermath is almost uncertain.

UPDATE: Pratt’s teasing comment contradicts with a recent tweet put out by James Gunn. The director of the film has confirmed Vol. 3 will take place Infinity War.

During a recent interview with MTV on the red carpet for MTV Movie and TV Awards, actor Chris Pratt has teased that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might take place before Avengers: Infinity War.

When asked about the upcoming film, Pratt joked that it will cast the Blue Man Group.

They’ve cast the Blue Man Group,” the Star-Lord actor said. “Yeah, it’s going to be all Blue Man Group. I’m not supposed to say anything, oh no now everyone’s going to be all mad! It’s the Blue Man Group. It’s an Andy Griffith hologram, yeah, they’re the new Guardians. It’s gonna be amazing.”

When asked about how Gamora’s death will be mourned in the upcoming film, Pratt quickly pointed out that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might not take place after Infinity War after all.

You don’t know,” the actor said. “It might take place in the past. It might be a prequel.”

Notably, Pratt isn’t the first one to tease that the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might actually be a prequel. Avengers: Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo revealed during an interview with Huffington Post that the characters appearing in another movie may not necessarily mean their survival is evident because of the timeline.

They even pointed out that there are several inventive ways in which the characters’ stories can be continued without undoing the ending of Infinity War. Joe warned that it’s not necessary that everything in the Marvel universe will move forward in a linear fashion.

For now, it’s better not to take anything for granted. Only time will tell what happens when Avengers 4 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hit theatres in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
