Jessica Jones: Showrunner Explains Jessica’s New Challenge In Season 2

Jessica Jones: Showrunner Explains Jessica’s New Challenge In Season 2

Netflix’s Jessica Jones is all set to return later this week and the series’ showrunner and casts had a lot to say about its return with season 2. It looks like Jessica won’t just be the brooding character that fans are well aware of.

The introduction of Killgrave gave a good start for the series and in turn, also set the bar quite high. But the showrunners seem to have managed to overcome that hurdle by picking on a different challenge for the superpowered PI that could possibly top season 1.

In an interview with EW for the magazine’s recent issue, Jessica Jones’ showrunner and its cast explained what to expect for Season 2.

The bar was set very high with Killgrave,” said Rosenberg.  “But you don’t want to repeat yourself, so you just turn around and set another bar somewhere else.”

Unlike season 1, Jessica won’t be running around cracking cases connected to Killgrave. But instead, the superpowered PI herself is the mystery she seeks to uncover.

She became the thing he [Killgrave] was trying to make her into this entire time, which is a killer,” explained Rosenberg. “This is her unsettling reality as we enter season 2, that she took a life. Is that going to be easier for her now? Is that who she really is at her core? There’s a lot of questions in terms of ‘Who am I really?’”

Fortunately, Jessica won’t be out looking for answers on her own. Her wannabe sidekick Trish played Rachel Taylor will also seek to uncover her origin story in the upcoming season. Furthermore, it looks like Trish’s career also got a bump thanks to her coverage of superpowered people on her radio show.

Trish’s focus is on justice for powered people like Jessica,” said Taylor. “She’s prepared to go to lengths we didn’t see her go in the first season to really feel like she matters, and to feel like she can be Jessica’s equal.”

As expected, Jessica Jones won’t be happy with Trish snooping around her case but it seems like the superpowered PI needs her more than ever as she unravels her mystery.

We see Jessica so hard-as-nails, and we never really explain why,” said Taylor. “Now we get to see all these vulnerable parts of her, show her gooey insides a little bit more.”

Jessica Jones season 2 is scheduled to air on March 8th on Netflix. Recently, the titles of Season 2 episodes were also unveiled in a uniquely through comic covers.
