Earlier last week, David F. Sandberg officially began working on Shazam! starting with its pre-production. Now, It looks like the project’s progress is speeding as a new report has revealed that Warner Bros. is closing in on an actor to play as Captain Marvel. Furthermore, descriptive details of characters for the movie have also been drafted.
According to ThatHashtagShow, WWE superstar John Cena and British actor Joshua Sasse (known for his lead role in Galavant) are the studio’s top choices to cast as Shazam!. Adding to that, the report has also provided character description for Billy Batson, the teenager with the ability to become the world’s mightiest mortal by shouting the word ‘Shazam!’.
Male, 12-15 years old. A teenager who becomes Captain Marvel, the world’s mightiest mortal. Granted access to incredible powers by the wizard Shazam, he speaks the wizard’s name and is struck by a lightning bolt that gives him the powers of the gods.
The report also contained Shazam! working synopsis. Going by its description, it is safe to say that the film will stay true to the comics.

For years, Shazam! project has stumbled to go into production. Earlier, fans expected Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam to be the main antagonist in the film. However, Warner Bros. shocked the fan base when it eventually revealed that the supervillain won’t be cast in the standalone movie. Shazam! is expected to release in 2019.
