Sony Pictures may have swayed from confirming if there will be more than one web-slinging superhero in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But a new TV spot has made a reference to another Spider-Man who originally faced off against Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octavius.
As Spider-Man: No Way Home inches closer to its December release, Sony and Marvel Studios are leaving no stones unturned with their active marketing push. Recently, Sony’s UK social media account released a 30 second TV spot hyping fans for the inevitable multiverse action.
The new footage begins by showing Doctor Octopus locked up behind some form of a see-through secure prison. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange seems to be giving Peter a lesson on the multiverse as he’s shown questioning Otto Octavius if Tom Holland’s version of Peter Parker is the one he knew in his world. As expected, Doctor Octopus is quick to deny as shown in the teaser below.

It seems pretty evident that Doctor Octopus is in fact referring to Toby Maguire’s Spider-Man. The involvement of Toby Maguire in Spider-Man: No Way Home has been assured by multiple online reports, although studios are yet to officially announce. Added, it is being indicated the big reveal of Maguire and even Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man is being kept in wraps for audiences to enjoy on the big screen.
In more Spidey news, two new posters have been unveiled for Spider-Man: No Way Home and a closer look show Willem Dafoe gliding as Green Goblin without his headgear.

Aside from the two Marvel villains mentioned above, Rhys Ifans’ Lizard, Thomas Haden Church‘s Sandman and Jamie Foxx’s Electro will also fight against Spider-Man. Insiders are also indicating a Daredevil cameo by Charlie Cox as his Matt Murdock persona. It will be interesting how the Spider-Man multiverse event will impact MCU larger Phase 4 timeline.
In any case, the wait won’t be long as Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in theatres on December 17.
