After a long wait, the first teaser of the Conjuring spin-off The Nun is finally out. The latest teaser trailer for the upcoming horror film is as scary as it was expected to be. Viewers who are Claustrophobic might find it a tad horrifying as the clip buries you inside a coffin. That’s exactly the spooky situation in which the character played by Demian Bichir finds him at the end of the new teaser.

The Nun is the fifth installment of the horror film franchise which began with James Wan’s The Conjuring released in 2013. The upcoming film is set in Romania of the early 50’s, even before the events of The Conjuring and Annabelle. It is touted as to be the darkest chapter in The Conjuring Universe.

The Nun will focus on the origins of Valak aka the demonic Nun, which tortured The Conjuring 2 ghost-hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga respectively.

The Nun stars Bichir as a priest, Father Burke, who has a haunted past and Taissa Farmiga as a novitiate, Sister Irene, who is on the threshold of her final vows. In the film, the Vatican sends the two to investigate the death of a young Nun who killed herself at a cloistered abbey in Romania.

Notably, Warner Bros. has also rolled out a new advertisement to promote the upcoming horror flick. The ad begins by displaying a volume sign which is turned down to the lowest before a brief horrifying imagery with a blood-curdling scream gets unleashed. The ad has been met with immense criticism from fans and critics.

Directed by Corin Hardy (The Hallow), The Nun is produced by James Wan and by Peter Safran, who has produced all the films in The Conjuring franchise. The film also stars Jonas Bloquet as Frenchie, Charlotte Hope as Sister Victoria, Ingrid Bisu as Sister Oana, and Bonnie Aarons, reprising her Conjuring 2 role as the title character.

The Nun is scheduled to release in theatres on September 7.
