Attack on Titan season 4 episode 28 had a lot to unpack before pulling viewers back to Eren’s POV of the Rumbling. While the series is already confirmed for Part 3 scheduled to release in 2023, Part 2’s finale addresses what came before the time jump and how Eren ended up in Marley as a wounded veteran.
Warning: The article contains major spoilers for Attack on Titan season 4 episode 28
After Shadis and Magath’s sacrifice helped the Anti-Eren ragtag squad flee, Mikasa finally gets to introspect the events that unfolded before Eren hijacked Eldia’s plans to pursue peace. Episode 28 finally fills the blanks on Eren’s sudden departure, Historia’s mysterious silence and Floch’s resilience to the Genocide. While it seemed like the finale would wrap up without a glimpse of Eren’s new transformation, viewers were proved wrong with a brief sequence of the Attack Titan’s eerie skeletal form, nearly 3 fold of the Colossal Titan’s size.
But prior to the big reveals, Episode 28 also offers what seems like the last ‘feel-good’ moments of AOT. Hange, Levi and others engage in the true mission the Survey Corps was created for, “Scouting”. Technology is still a sight to behold especially for Hange after coming across a four-wheeled vehicle (Hopefully, No carrots were hurt). The fan-favorite trinity, Jean, Sasha and Connie are once again the heart of the series, gushing in excitement over the sight of Ice cream. But the best takeaway of them all is Levi’s uncomfortable expression to a Clown who clearly needs a lesson on boundaries.

Before the gang basked in joy one last time, the episode drags viewers back to Season 2’s romantic tension between Eren and Mikasa. Unfortunately, Mikasa’s answer to Eren is vague, though it does make her question/realize if a certain different response could have changed the present scenario. All in all, “The Dawn of Humanity” shows Eren’s last few laughs as the heroes basked in drinks with the Mid-east Refugees. Reactions on social media have fans expressing their gratitude to MAPPA for producing season 4 while many were also dishearted to see go back into hibernation till 2023. You can check it out below.

Some fans praised the show’s drastic improvement in character drawings like Eren’s expressions from season 1 and a reinterpretation of that scene in Season 4.

A new visual poster for Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 3 was unveiled before the airing of Part 2’s finale. Levi can be seen donning the mobility gear as well so it seems the Squad Captain is back in action to lead the others. Armin is at the forefront while Pieck is at the back. It remains to be seen if the series would end as a traditional series or follow the new trend and produce a full-length feature film.
