Fans react to Eragon series news for Disney Plus, creator Christopher Paolini responds

The fan-favorite young adult novel Eragon is coming back as a live-action series under Disney Plus and the reboot news has left many fans startled. What’s more, author Christopher Paolini is attached to the project as well, and offered a few cryptic words of gratitude towards the fandom or better put Alagaësians.

For many, the Eragon reboot announcement would be a trip down memory lane since the first adaptation was a movie in 2006 which failed to appeal to both critics and fans of the book alike. The feature starred a young Ed Speleers as Eragon Garrett and Jeremy Irons as Brom, a once Dragon Rider teaching Eragon how to ride Saphira, the dragon voiced by Rachel Weisz.

For the uninitiated, the Eragon universe has fantasy elements that you’d find in the Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. In a world of Dragons, elves and humans, similar to GOT’s House Targaryen – not every individual is capable of riding one. Much like Thor’s Mjolnir choosing if the wielder is worthy of using the hammer, a Dragon egg in Eragon hatches only if and when the baby inside decides the human or elf in contact is worthy of becoming its partner by mind and heart. The Eragon movie was made with a $100 million production budget and netted about $75M domestically.

Since the movie’s failure to live up to expectations, Many have long arduously campaigned for a reboot and with the mouse house in the early stages of developing an Eragon series with Paolini’s involvement – the fan reactions below say it all.

It should be noted while Paolini was initially reported by Variety as a co-showrunner and set to co-write the series, the report has since been updated to state the project is in “such early stages that no such decision has been made officially.”

Eragon series does not have a release date attached yet.
