An all-new six-second long teaser trailer for The CW’s new upcoming superhero show Black Lightning was released today. The show is based on the DC Comics character by the same name.
The new Black Lightning trailer video released early today offer fans very little detail. However, it shows Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning (played by Cress Williams) charging up to use his superhero power on what seems to be an unseen threat. Pierce is shown in the footage as saying, “People there need me…Black Lightning is back.” Check out the teaser trailer below.
The Black Lightning character has been part of the DC Comics Universe ever since it was conceived and created in 1977 by writer Tony Isabella and artist Trevor Von Eeden.
The show traces the life of a former superhero named Jefferson Pierce who has the power to control electricity. The new CW series has Berlanti Productions and Akil Productions team up with Warner Bros. Television. Salim Akil, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Mara Brock will be the executive producers.
Black Lightning – Story
Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) has a deep well-kept secret. Pierce is not just a father to two young daughters; he is also a highly respected principal of a charter high school which is the most secure place for youngsters in a New Orleans neighborhood that is also home to criminals and gangsters. Jefferson Pierce is a hero to his community. But nine years ago, he was a different man.
Pierce, who is gifted with the power to control electricity, used this blessing to fight against the rising menace of gangsters by masking himself as the Black Lightning in the night.
However, he realized after a while the dangerous effect that his dual life is beginning to have on his family and his life. He then decides to leave his Super Hero days behind and became a principal and dad.
Jefferson Pierce watches both his little girls grow up into beautiful and confident young women. However, his relationship with his wife and the mother of his daughters suffers. He helps his community and school in the best way possible without using his superpowers. Just when Pierce is beginning to think that he has left his superhero life completely, Black lightening is forced to return when the local gang, ‘The One Hundred’, led by Tobias Whale poses threat to his family and community.
Apart from Cress Williams, the star cast of Black Lightning includes Nafessa Williams (Anissa Pierce), China Anne McClain (Jennifer Pierce) and Christine Adams (Lynn Pierce).
Black Lightning is all set to premiere Tuesday, January 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. The slot belongs to DC’s Legends of Tomorrow at the moment.
