The Boys season 3 trailer just introduced Butcher’s (Karl Urban) trump card against Homelander (Antony Starr), the first celebrity supes, Jensen Ackles’s Soldier Boy. However, the Captain America-esque supes may be too much for the gang to handle, even with a super like Kumiko (Karen Fukuhara) at their side. But who is this new dangerous superhuman? Well, we may have some answers.
The Boys season 3 trailer promises more supe vs. Supe action with Butcher and his ragtag team at the center of it. In fact, a shady new serum capable of making any human into a “super-abled” being for 24 hours may have upped the ante but at what cost? While the promo leaves audiences with quite a few questions, one query that stands out is Ackles’ Soldier Boy and his M.O., who seems to be a mix of Hydra influenced Captain America as well as Superman(when he woke up on the wrong side of the bed, a distinction that was once only relatable for Homelander).
The last few seconds of The Boys season 3 trailer offer a glimpse at the Solider boys’ ability, which resembles the X-Men’s Havoc. An iteration of the Marvel character was played by Lucas Till in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Apocalypse. Though trait-wise, the two are in stark contrast to one another. For starters, The Solider boy is an antagonist in the comics who hopes to become a member of The Seven.

Most of Soldier Boy’s abilities are similar to Captain America – superhuman strength, speed and he even uses a shield. In the comics, soldier boy is American’s response to their race against developing superhumans in World War II. But one thing he doesn’t have in common with Steve Rogers is bravery. The character is considered a parody and a coward known for easily being manipulated by other heroes. On one occasion, Homelander manipulates him into having sex and he blindly engages thinking it’s a test to become a member of the Seven.

While this makes him seem like a minor league hero, The Boys series appears to be taking a U-turn from the comic adaptation. The scenes shown in the trailer indicate Butcher using him as a weapon against Vout as well as Homelander. And from the looks of it, Homelander’s laser pales in comparison to Solider Boy’s “havoc” like power-up.
The Boys season 2 also referenced the character when Giancarlo Esposito’s Stan Edgar proudly speaks of Solider Boy as a hero “killing germans by the dozen”. So it seems the groundwork is already laid out to introduce him with a similar origin to his comic counterpart.
So far, all signs indicate Ackles’ involvement in Amazon Prime’s original series is more prominent than Aya Cash’s Stormfront. The supernatural star had once auditioned to play MCU’s Captain America so perhaps it would be an intriguing recurring character to see Ackles play.
The Boys season 3 arrives on June 3.
